Pima katoen onderscheidt zich van gewoon katoen door de sterkte en de lengte van de vezel. De vezel van Pima katoen is veel sterker dan die van gewoon katoen. De vezels zijn 35% langer. Dit resulteert in een zachter, sterker katoen met een mooie glans. Pima katoen is de zachtste en sterkste katoensoort. Het is vernoemd naar een Amerikaanse indianenstam: zij verbouwden deze katoenplant als eerst op grote schaal. Stoffen van Pima katoen zijn duurzaam en van hoge kwaliteit. De katoen wordt oorspronkelijk verbouwd in Amerika, maar inmiddels ook in Peru en Australië.

Door de extra vezellengte neemt Pima katoen kleur beter op, en blijft de kleur langer mooi. Pima katoen is daarnaast duurzamer dan gewoon katoen. De productie is minder belastend voor het milieu, waardoor het een van de milieuvriendelijkste katoensoorten is.
