05. Correction of the lower lip by means of the elastic thread in a patient with agenesia of the facial nerve
Congenital agenesia of the facial nerve is a very rare and invalidating pathology. In this patient, the flaccidity due to the absence of the VII encephalic nerve is particularly evident in the lower lip, which is unable to retain liquids and solids in the mouth properly. To overcome this problem, we decided to use an EP 3.5 Elasticum® thread (Korpo SRL), which is equipped with an atraumatic two-tipped Jano needle®. As this needle is able to rotate through 360° (180°+180°), it enables us to implant an elastic thread that runs from one temporal region to the other, passing through the subcutaneous tissue of both cheeks and the lower lip. In this way, the Elasticum® thread provides permanent suspension of the lip.
